JERSEY BULLS ANNOUNCE PLANS FOR DEVELOPMENT TEAM (U23) FOR NEW SEASON

Jersey Bulls FC deliver on their mission and provide increased opportunities for the Island’s most promising young players by establishing a Development side (U23) for the start of the 2021/22 season.

Jersey Bulls are delighted to announce that their newly formed Development team will help to create tangible player pathways to success, whether that be through the exciting new competitions to be entered, challenging new opposition or simply by preparing players for mainland-based football at University, semi-professional or even professional footballing levels.

The newly created side will be featuring in up to three knock out cups which will primarily be played via mid-week fixtures intentionally minimising any disruption to the existing Jersey Leagues. Ahead of finalising their plans, the Bulls reached out to the Jersey Football Association to discuss their ambitions as well as contact-ing all the clubs on the island. Chairman Russell Le Feuvre said, “The clubs that we have engaged with have been really supportive and complimentary of Jersey Bulls FC and think that a Development Team will help bridge the gap from playing Under 18 football to taking part in senior football.”

Le Feuvre added “(this team) gives the opportunity for young players coming through to experience the type of competition that the first team men are regularly facing, the level of commitment required and how the club operates when we travel for away games.”

So far, the Bulls have used nine players that would be eligible to play in next year’s Development squad and there are plenty of talented youngsters coming through from the JFA Centre of Excellence and the local clubs as well. Bulls Manager Gary Freeman had already introduced more younger players to training with the squad in 2020/21 season with the aim of them gaining valuable experience and he looks forward to seeing them eventually progress into the first team. Freeman explains, “It gives more players an opportunity to de-velop their skills by playing against UK opposition. We have some fantastic players coming through and it would be great to involve even more of the talented youngsters in the club. You never know this new Devel-opment team could open a few more doors and might even lead to some becoming professional players.”

Jersey Bulls will be announcing more details and information on the competitions once their 2021/22 status is confirmed. In addition, the Bulls are actively seeking a Manager for the new Development team, one who can work closely with Manager Gary Freeman and his colleagues. Any progress in this recruitment will be announced once the successful candidate has been appointed.
