Match Report

First Class Foxes Overcome Fighting Bulls

Reporter: Dan Andrade

Goals from Raul Uche, Conner Tee and Ryan Loft secured victory for Leicester U23s as Gary Freeman’s men battled in vain against the professionals at Springfield Stadium in Jersey Bulls’ second ever match.

The first chance of the game came Bulls’ way, with Daryl Wilson volleying towards goal, resulting in Victor Johansson pushing the effort away from the goal.

Last weeks Man of The Match, Jack Griffin, then had a major scare as he sliced a clearance right into the path of Arlott-John, but the towering centre half recovered brilliantly with a perfectly timed sliding tackle.

Here is last nights captain, James Queree’s thoughts:

Uche opened the scoring in the 22nd minute after a deflected shot found its way to Justin Kranthove, who beat Bulls shot-stopper Euan Van Der Vliet to the ball, and nodded it across to the Foxes striker, who fired into the open goal.

Six minutes later, the lead was doubled. The very talented Layton Ndukwu went past several Bulls players on a mazy run before setting up Tee who calmly slotted the ball past Van Der Vliet, in what was a goal which emphasised Leicester’s quality.

Uche could have put the game to bed, but Van Der Vliet, who shone last week against Stevenage, pulled off a fine save to deny him.

Jonny Le Quesne, who scored Bulls’ third last weekend, tested Johansson just before half time after a good spell from Freeman’s side.

HT: Bulls 0-2 Leicester U23.

The impressive Ndukwu started the second half as he had ended the first and smashed the crossbar from just outside the area.

Midfielder Sean Lambert had a shot after being found by Adam Trotter, but saw his effort blaze over the bar.

Bulls impressed in the second half, with the front three Jake Baker, Harry Cardwell and Lorne Bickley all shining, the latter only being denied by Leicester’s substitute keeper Jakub Storlarczyk in the 68th minute.

Bickley was involved again moments later, forcing Stolarczyk to punch the ball into the path of Jules Gabbiadini, whose shot was deflected, but easily gathered by the visiting shot stopper.

Here is what Gary had to say after the game:

Baker then saw his effort go wide, having been set up by Bickley after a smart turn from the impressive 21 year old.

Lambert slotted Cardwell in, but the tricky winger was denied by a last ditch tackle, in a period of the game where the Bulls entertained a 963 strong crowd.

Against the run of play the visitors put the game beyond any doubt when man mountain Loft guided his header into the top corner after a pinpoint delivery from George Thomas.

Despite the loss, Bulls proved they were no pushovers once again with another gritty display.

Up next is the first competitive league game for the Bulls, against Ash United on the 3rd August at Springfield Stadium, kick off 3pm. Buy tickets online to avoid the queues!
