Match Report

Hanworth Villa 2 Jersey Bulls 3

The Bulls moved in to the last 16 of the Premier Challenge Cup against a side from the division above.

On a cold but dry evening, the Bulls dominated early possession but had little to show for it. Credit to the home side who restricted the Bulls to long range efforts which failed to test their captain in goal.

The deadline was broken in the 40th minute. A long clearance from the back was seized upon by Daryl Wilson. Wilson from just inside his own half outpaced his marker and drilled a low shot the keeper from 18 yards.

The second half started well for the Bulls with Kieran Lester going close from 15 yards. It was Lester who doubled our advantage with a good finish after clever play by Karl Hinds in the 53rd minute.

Hinds’ was replaced on the hour for debutant, Calvin Weir. 10 minutes later the Bulls thought they had secured their place in the next round when Ruben Mendes scores the goal of the game. Mendes’ powerful right foot drive was a belter from 25 yards.

The away fans were still celebrating when Hanworth Villa attacked and scored. The Villa striker finished well from a low cross leaving Brad Rolland with little chance.

This goal led to a bit of Hanworth pressure for the remainder of the game. They were rewarded with a second, it was an almost identical goal that Diego Maradona scored with his hand back in 1986! Sadly neither official saw it and it was 2-3!

The Bulls held strong and saw out the win, their 16th on the bounce!
